OOC Some users prefer that SPORT never answer the telephone, but onlyC send outgoing mail. To force SPORT to ONLY make outgoing calls:C Add the keyword OUTBOUNDONLY to your SPORT.RAW file and then runC SPREP. The next time you run SPORT, it will ignore all incomingC calls but will send mail in the usual way. process mail.D When you select one of the commands, SPORT will provide a shortD explanation of how that command operates and what you can expect.D You should consult the SPORT documentation for more information if) you wish to pursue the command further.< To return to the COMMAND MODE, press "*" on your keyboard.
RESTRICTC SPORT has a variety of options for restricting access and adding
additional security.C To restrict access to only the entries in your IDX, file use the2 CLOSEDSYSTEM keyword in your Configuration file.C You may assign passwords to subsystems, remote access/remote mailC and remote programming. Please refer to the SPORT documentation: for how to implement these additional security measures.
HIDDENCOMMANDS? The SPORT MAILER MENU supports commands not on the MAIL MENU:@ Control+S ... Allows you to run a script from the MAILER MENU.> Control+T ... Forces an ERRORLEVEL exit with ERRORLEVEL = 2.1 Control+L ... Locks the SPORT system keyboard. 2 V ........... Toggle Video, Monochrome to Color.: X ........... Edit IDX File directly from the Mail Menu.C Z ........... Zip Mail to preaddress Messages using SPORTMSG.LST.C Please see the SPORT documentation for more about these commands. ROUTEMAILD SPORT allows for sophisticated routing of mail through your system.C In order to route mail you will need to create a control file toC issue special routing commands. A sample SPORTRTE.CTL file wasC included with your distribution package and the subject of routing' is covered in the SPORT documentation.C Using SPORTRTE.EXE, the Intelligent Router, and the control file,? you can manage inbound and outbound mail in a variety of ways.; For a quick overview look at the sample SPORTRTE.CTL file.
HOWTOCFG= To reconfigure your SPORT system, use the following method:
1. Go to the UTILITY MENU.* 2. Use the "G" command [Edit CFG File].@ 3. Make any modifications you desire. Be sure to follow the@ correct syntax for each command as outlined in the SPORT
documentation.8 4. Use "ALT+Q" and press RETURN to save your changes.@ 5. When SPORT asks you if you wish to make these changes$ permanent, answer "Y" for YES.' Your system will now be reconfigured.
HOWTOIDX= To update your IDX [Telephone Book] file: * 2. Use the "X" command [Edit IDX File]., 4. Follow the instructions on the screen.$ Your IDX file will now be updated.
HOWTOEVT4 To update your EVT [Event] file: , 2. Use the "E" command [Edit Event File].A 3. The SPORT event editor will be displayed. Use this utilityA to add, delete, or modify events as outlined in the SPORTA 4. Quit and save the new event schedule to the event file you/ will be using [SPORT.EVT is the default].7 Your new event schedule will take effect immediately.

Together these parts form a complete communications system.
PRINTLOGC Using the PRINT LOG command allows you to print the contents of; SPORT.LOG by sending it to the printer connected to LPT1.C If you use this command, but do not have a printer connected orC ready to print the file, a warning message will be displayed.C To activate the print feature, be sure the keyword NOPRINTER is? either commented out or removed from your configuration file.< Your current log is left intact after using this command. CONFIGUREC Your default SPORT configuration is established in the SPORT.RAW> file, although you may make minor changes from time to time.C The CONFIGURE command allows you to temporarily change key itemsC from those default items in your SPORT.RAW file. You can change= back to the default configuration by using the "R" command.C Also, whenever SPORT is run, the default configuration will be
automatically selected.C If you are in the TEACH MODE you must use the "*" command to move5 to the COMMAND MODE before accessing this function.
NOSCREENC Using the NO SCREEN command will force SPORT to blank your videoC display at least 50% of the time during its operation. From timeC to time SPORT will display a single informational line to let you know it is operating normally.: This option can be used to prevent screen image burn-in.C To return to the Mail Menu press any key or, if you are using a
mouse, press any mouse key.
BELLOFFC You may establish times during which SPORT should alert you toC important mail activity. These are set up in your Configuration6 file and changed from the UTILITY MENU ["G" option].C Using the BELL OFF command, you may override the times duringC which SPORT alerts you to mail activity. Using this command4 will force SPORT to be silent upon receiving mail.C Once SPORT exits this temporary BELL OFF condition is overridden.C You may change the times for the BELL to sound by editing your7 SPORT Configuration File ["G" from the Utility Menu].
MAILSTATUS9 This command will display the status of the following: 7 ... Mail waiting to be sent - with an S if scheduled.
... Mail on hold.( ... Mail which could not be delivered.6 ... Mail counter attempts (see SPORT documentation).. ... Contents of your inbound mail/file area.; This option is available from the MAIL and UTILITY Menus.
OPSYSTEM: Using this command you can access your Operating System.C You will be asked for a command to pass to DOS, or you can enterC a question mark for more help. When you ask for help you willC be given a list of valid commands for your particular system.6 This option is available from all three SPORT menus.C Note that when you are using this command from the MAIL MENU the? normal functions of SPORT will be suspended until you return.
MODIFY@ Even after you have created a message you may still change it.C Using the MODIFY MESSAGE command, SPORT will present a menu ofC messages waiting to be sent and allow you to select one or moreC for modification. You will then be able to directly change the= contents of the message you have selected for modification.? You may modify messages ready to be sent or messages on hold.
POLLC Using the POLL command, SPORT will automatically create a Flash7 Message to the target system and proceed to mail it.C POLLing another system is used to pick up any mail which may be" waiting on the system you poll.C From the UTILITY MENU, the CREATE POLL operates in the same wayB except that you remain in the Utility Mode after making a POLL.D If you are in the TEACH MODE you must use the "*" command to move6 to the COMMAND MODE before accessing this function.
UTILITYC The UTILITY MENU provides a number of options to help you manage5 your system, perform DOS functions and manage mail.C You can reach the UTILITY MENU from either the MAIL MENU or theC TERMINAL MENU. The UTILITY MENU has its own list of functions and5 an online help system to guide you through its use.8 to the COMMAND MODE before accessing the UTILITY MENU.
IMMEDIATEMAILC SPORT will normally schedule all mail automatically. There mayC be times, however, when you would like to schedule mail in aC different way, or send mail immediately. This command allows, you to manipulate mail waiting to be sent.C Once used, this command will present a screen of waiting mailC and allow you to change the schedule and/or mail immediately.C Once you have established a mail schedule, SPORT will follow that8 schedule faithfully until all mail has been processed.
USELIBRARYA The SPORT Library is the place where all Flash Messages youA have received are stored. From inside the Library you canA review, file, or delete messages. You may also reply to/ an existing message or create a new message.A The SPORT Libary can accomodate up to 100 messages. If youA have need to retain more than this number of messages you can; use the SPORTLIB utility to create individual libraries.A If you are in the TEACH MODE, you must use the "*" command for3 the COMMAND MODE before accessing this function.
TERMINALMODEC The TERMINAL MENU allows you to communicate with other onlineC services, Bulletin Boards, MainFrame systems and directly withC users of other terminal programs. There are several options for& exchanging files with other systems.C The TERMINAL MENU shares all of the SPORT configuration filesC and supports a list of many options and commands. You can reachC the TERMINAL MENU by using the "T" [Terminal] command from the
MAIL MENU9 to the COMMAND MODE before accessing the TERMINAL MENU.
ENTERMESSAGEB The ENTER MESSAGE command from the MAIL MENU allows youB to create a Flash Message to be sent to one or more otherB SPORT systems. You will have a variety of options as toB how to create this message using the SPORT full screenB editor, the SPORT line editor or an editor of your choice* as declared in your Configuration file.B When you quit from the ENTER MESSAGE mode SPORT will resume/ mailer operations and send any pending mail.B If you are in the TEACH MODE, you must use the "*" command for
FKC SPORT allows you to define Function Keys on your keyboard toC assign commands for SPORT to act upon. From the MAIL MENU,C these commands will be passed directly to DOS if they are valid.C From the TERMINAL MENU, using the "ALT" key and a Function Key,+ the command will be passed to the modem.C You can define the Function Keys 1 through 9 for the MAIL MENUC in your Configuration file. TERMINAL MENU Function Keys requireC a special file discussed in the documentation. From the UTILITYB MENU the Function Keys operate as they do from the MAILER MENU.< You must be in the COMMAND MODE to use the Function Keys.
VIDEOCHANGE; SPORT supports both color and monochrome video systems.= Use the VIDEO CHANGE option to change between a color and= monochrome display mode. You can repeat this command as= often as you like to change back and forth between color
and monochrome displays.= If you are in the TEACH MODE you must use the "*" command; for the COMMAND MODE before accessing the Utility Menu. BATCHDROP@ From the MAIL MENU you can command SPORT to exit to the batch@ file from which it was called by using the BATCH DROP command.@ You will be asked to enter a DOS ERRORLEVEL between 5 and 255@ and SPORT will exit to your batch file using this ERRORLEVEL.8 Note that SPORT reserves ERRORLEVELS 0 - 5 for itself.; Please consult your DOS manual on how to use ERRORLEVELs.
SMALLWC SPORT normally displays a full screen MAIL MENU which tellsC your system condition and lists various commands. If you areC running SPORT under a multitasking system, you may want to use= a smaller menu which will fit inside a multitasking window.C The SMALL WINDOW command will tell SPORT to use a small menu ofC about six lines rather than the full screen MAIL MENU. All ofC your vital system information will be displayed. To return to; the normal full screen menu from the small menu, use "R".
QUITC The QUIT command will leave the current operation you are using
and do one of the following:> From the MAIL MENU ...... will exit SPORT and return to DOS.= From the UTILITY MENU ... will return to the previous menu.; From the TERMINAL MENU .. will return to the MAILER MENU.: From other menus ........ will quit the action underway.D If you are in the TEACH MODE, you must enter "*" to return to the% COMMAND MODE before quitting SPORT. HOUSEKEEPC SPORT will automatically perform certain functions at midnightC if it is not busy with mail at that time. This is known as theC HOUSEKEEPING function and is designed to keep your SPORT system" as maintenance free as possible.C If SPORT is not busy at midnight it will rename your SPORT.LOGC with a unique file name using the current date and time, restartC a new SPORT.LOG and reset all of your mail/call counters to zero.
MODES+ SPORT has several online help facilities.D The TEACH MODE will help you to learn about SPORT commands withoutD actually activating the command.
